Baker hat-trick keeps BAS in good form

-

The second week of the new Bath & District Sunday League season saw a big schedule of fixtures take place, lots of goals and controversy, with some big results that shocked too.

In Division One BAS continued with their fine form from the first week’s 3-2 win over Kingsmead, beating Radstock Albion 7-2 who were starting their campaign.

A hat-trick from Jake Baker was added to by Dan Marriot (2) and Jaiden Savery (2), giving the home team a dominant lead while strikes from Myrie and Ruan turned out only consolations for the visiting team.

More misery was heaped on Bath United as they continue to search for their first points of the campaign following last week’s 3-2 loss at Heritage, while Kingsmead got their first three through goals from Wych and Saunders in a 2-0 win.

A tight affair between PF Loco and Odd Down SC was looking in the bag for the hosts as goals from

Smith and Cartwright had them 2-1 ahead with three minutes to go, ruling out Marks’ strike for Down, but there was late drama when Burns grabbed a point for the travelling team in the last minute of the game.

Odd Down had won their opener against 3-1, while PF Loco were beginning their campaign.

Batheaston grabbed their first win of the season with home advantage over Heritage winning 3-1, Reeves got on the away side’s goal.

In Division Two, Odd Down SC Reserves didn’t have the same luck as the first team, losing 4-1 to Trinity. Mccaffery, Stanton, Mureson and Smith-core all managed to get their name in lights for the visitors.

It was a much more comfortable victory for Team Nathan this week, compared to last week’s 1-0 win over Griffin, although Victoria put up a fight in the 6-2 scoreline. A thunderbolt from Jack Rowlands got things going for the home team, added to by a first-half brace with clever finishing from Gary Jones.

Just after the break, Rowlands completed his double with a cool strike, before Tom Rosevear wanted in on the action grabbing two of his own in emphatic fashion.

With 15 minutes to go the Vics didn’t give up, threw everything forward and scored twice late on. Griffin and Lansdown took part in a 12-goal thriller and shared the points.

Puckle Vale travelled to Welton Rangers in Division Three and took home a 4-1 win, a hat-trick from Dan Preddy and a Godfrey goal did the damage. Welton also lost their first match, 3-1 at Farrington.

A goal from Cousins for hosts Heritage Reserves just wasn’t enough in their 3-1 defeat to Two Weir Town. Colchoneros and Dunkerton also managed wins, 6-2 over Farrington and 2-1 over Bear Flat respectively.
