Balloon steals show as TV crew return
Photos taken as ITV drama Mcdonald and Dodds filmed in Bath show a hot air balloon being inflated on the site.
The detective drama, which is set in the city, stars Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins as the titular odd-couple detectives.
It was confirmed by the stars in August that a second series of the drama had been commissioned, and Gouveia further implied on Twitter that the series would again be filmed in Bath.
It now appears that work on the second series, which will consist of three two-hour episodes, is under way, with footage showing a location shoot on the Royal Crescent green on Monday.
A video, shared on social media by the Royal Crescent Society, shows a hot air balloon inflated, with crew members spread across the area.
There is no indication how this ties into the drama’s storyline as yet.
Mcdonald and Dodds fans can now look forward to a second season, although it is not yet known when it should be expected on our screens.
The series pairs feisty DCI Mcdonald, who has recently transferred from London’s Met Police, with the modest and unassuming DS Dodds, who has been happy in the background for most of his working life.
Thrown together seemingly with nothing in common, they forge a rumbustious and ultimately highly effective crime-solving partnership.
Independent production company Mammoth Screen is behind the series. Director of drama Preethi Mavahalli said: “We are thrilled that Robert Murphy’s clever storytelling was a hit with audiences earlier this year.
“Mcdonald and Dodds are a quirkily unique investigative team brought to life beautifully by Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins.
“We’re really pleased ITV have commissioned more films and look forward to returning to film in Bath.”
