Johnson’s tarnishing the UK’S reputation
Back in October last year in response to Jeremy Corbyn’s statement a month earlier that an election “needs to take place as soon as
Iam very pleased to be taking on a new role - as spokesperson for Justice and Women & Equalities for the Liberal Democrats.
This Government has tried to undermine the rule of law since day one and is obsessed with trying to create a “culture war” and normalise divisive, inflammatory rhetoric.
My number one priority remains representing the people of Bath.
I am confident that my new role will give me greater scope to do this and that people in Bath will support my fight for a more equal and just United Kingdom.
In Parliament, I have been working to represent local issues.
I have made speeches calling for support for our World Heritage city during this challenging time, the need to safeguard mental health and wellbeing, and the importance of looking out for those who may be vulnerable within our communities.
In addition to this, I have worked to draw attention to the failures of the Government testing system.
I wrote to Matt Hancock outlining the local situation; many families have struggled to access test appointments within a reasonable distance and without long online wait times.
I have also been campaigning on behalf of Bath City Football Club.
In the House of Commons, I raised the issue of National League clubs and asked the Government if they were able to allow spectators back into stadiums for the new season.
Although clubs have spent time and resources creating painstaking plans which would allow social distancing at games, it is clear that this is no longer an option.
However, unless Government offers support to grassroots football, many clubs will not be able to afford losing another season without going under.
I will continue to campaign on behalf of Bath City and hope that the Government will step up.
I have spoken with Bath University and Bath Spa to ensure that students can return to the community safely. I am in regular contact with both Vice-chancellors and working to ensure that everyone is aware of, and following, regulations on social distancing.
We face a challenging autumn, with new restrictions that may well be with us for many months.
As a city, Bath is incredibly resilient, and I know we will help each other get through this hard time.
