Mo­torist as­saulted at traf­fic lights

A driver has been at­tacked in a sus­pected road rage in­ci­dent while sit­ting at traf­fic lights near Bath.

The vic­tim was wait­ing at lights on the A4 at New­bridge Road at around 8.15am on Thurs­day, Oc­to­ber 1, when an un­known man ap­proached his car and be­gan bang­ing on the win­dows and swear­ing at him.

Dam­age was caused to the driver’s door wing mir­ror, and when he got out to in­spect the dam­age, the un­known man as­saulted him.

The of­fender was be­lieved to be driv­ing a silver van and Avon and Som­er­set Po­lice have is­sued an ap­peal to any­one who may have seen the al­ter­ca­tion, as well as a de­scrip­tion of the at­tacker.

The state­ment said: “The vic­tim was sit­ting in his car at traf­fic lights at the junc­tion of New­bridge Road as it joins the A4 dual car­riage­way to­wards Bris­tol when an un­known man started bang­ing on the driver door win­dow and shout­ing and swear­ing at him. He then caused dam­age to the driver door wing mir­ror. When the vic­tim got out of his car to in­spect the dam­age, the of­fender re­turned and as­saulted him.

“The of­fender is de­scribed as white, just shorter than six feet, in his late 40s to early 50s, with grey­ing re­ced­ing hair. He was driv­ing a silver van.
