‘Delight’ as company opens fourth pub
A new pub has opened in Bath, much to the delight of its owner.
The Moorfields opened on October 7 in Third Avenue in Oldfield Park, offering a “friendly relaxed” atmosphere.
Joe Cussens, the managing director of The Bath Pub Company, said he was “delighted” the pub could still open despite the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “We first started thinking about this project years ago, it is such a great pub and in a great location but it needed a lot of refurbishment and time spent on it. It had gotten run down.
“At the end of last year we had it confirmed and signed the lease just at the start of lockdown, which was a bit terrifying, but all along I had a feeling we were doing the right thing.”
The Bath Pub Company, set up in 2012, also operates The Hare and Hounds in Lansdown, Marlborough Tavern and The Locksbrook Inn.
There will be approximately 15 permanent members of staff as well as roughly five more working parttime.
Mr Cussens said that he would not be surprised if further lockdowns and restrictions happened but that there was “no point” worrying about them.
He said: “We have come through the pandemic so far but we always knew the tricky time would be the winter months when we lose the outdoor trade and have fewer covers inside. I have a positive outlook though and I think this pub will be a great success.”
The Moorfields boasts a large outdoor area and Mr Cussens said he thinks it will be a “useful” space in winter for people who wish to remain outside in the fresh air for further protection against coronavirus.
In the few days since its opening Mr Cussens said the local reaction to the pub had been positive.
The pub will be following coronavirus restrictions and good hygiene practice, he said.
