Author’s latest offering attracts positive reviews
The latest book by a former Bath Spa University student has earned rave reviews from readers on Amazon and Waterstones.
Amanda Read wrote Lost & Waiting, which highlights the devastating impact of deforestation and the importance of plant conservation, while studying the university’s celebrated Creative Writing MA.
The book tells the story of a Victorian journal which, when discovered sets in motion an adventure which blends past, present and myth.
At the heart of the story is the idea of the World Tree, a legend in botany which the Victorian journal of a plant hunter claims is real.
For Evangeline, the protagonist, the journal is the sign she’s waiting for and she sets off for Chile to find the tree which is supposed to be at the centre of not just life but the afterlife as well.
In her way are corporate powers whose motivations are very different to hers.
Amanda describes herself as a “lapsed botanist” as well as a novelist and short story writer.
Bristol-born Amanda lived in Athens, Rotterdam and London, before settling in the South West. She works as an agricultural research programme manager for international development. When not writing or working, she reads for the Bath Short Story Award, and reviews books and writerly events.
Lost & Waiting is now on sale, priced £9.99, from Amazon, Waterstones and various independent booksellers. The ISBN number is 9781838534110.
