Latest figures show 25 died with Covid-19

Every Somerset district recorded at least one Covid-19 death within 28 days of the victim testing positive on Tuesday, the latest figures reveal.

Bath and North East Somerset had the highest number of daily deaths in Somerset, at six, while South Somerset, North Somerset and Somerset West and Taunton recorded five deaths each.

Sedgemoor’s daily death toll was the lowest in the county, with one death registered.

Hundreds more coronaviru­s cases were confirmed across Somerset in the 24 hours leading up to the publicatio­n of Tuesday’s figures as the UK Covid-19 death toll passed 100,000.

A total of 221 people tested positive for Covid-19.

B&NES saw the biggest jump in cases, where 54 new cases were confirmed.

Deaths within 28 days of a positive test in each area, reported on January 26, were: South Somerset – 5; North Somerset – 5; Somerset West and Taunton – 5; B&NES – 6; Mendip – 3; Sedgemoor – 1.

New coronaviru­s cases in each area, reported on January 26, were: South Somerset – 33; North Somerset – 53; Somerset West and Taunton – 50; B&NES – 54; Mendip – 18; Sedgemoor – 13.
