Police appeal after reports of sexual assault

-

Police and Bath Spa University say they are aware of reports on social media about an alleged serious sexual assault that took place over the weekend.

The incident is said to have taken place over the bank holiday weekend at the university’s Newton Park campus in Newton St Loe.

As yet, no official report has been made to either the university or the police, but they have both encouraged anyone with information to speak to them.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said speciallytrained officers and staff were ready to help should a report be made.

A spokesperson for Bath Spa University said they “strongly encouraged” anyone with information to talk to them and the police.

The spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Police have been made aware of a concerning anonymous social media post about a serious sexual assault at Newton Park, Newton St Loe. Officers have looked into it and at this time have no record of such an assault being reported. We’d ask anyone who can tell us more to call 101.

“We encourage anyone who has suffered sexual assault to report it. You will be supported by specially-trained officers and staff. If you do not want to talk to the police, you can get advice, help and support from The Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre with no need to speak to officers.”

Bath Spa University said in a statement: “We are aware of information that has been shared on anonymous social media accounts about an alleged serious sexual assault on campus.

“We strongly encourage anyone who has any information about this to report it directly to the university and the police.”
