Debenhams branch to close by next weekend

-

Debenhams has confirmed when its store in Bath will close for good.

Its planned closure had already been announced, but an exact date had yet to be made public.

Now it has been confirmed the store on Southgate Place in Bath will shut by May 15, according to The Sun.

The 243-year-old retailer announced in December that its administrators had begun a liquidation process, and that some stores would not be reopening long-term.

The high street chain was bought by Boohoo in January this year in a £55 million deal that only included the retailer’s name and website.

Boohoo plans to relaunch the brand online by the end of May.

Prices have already been cut in store and online by up to 70 per cent, but the retailer will reduce them further in stores that will be shutting down.

Debenhams reopened 97 stores in April for closing down sales.

The department store said it would be offering up to 70 per cent off fashion and homewares and up to 50 per cent off beauty and fragrance in its final sale.

Debenhams’ exit from the high street after more than 200 years will leave gaps at the heart of many town centres.
