County records one virus death

Another coronaviru­s death was confirmed in Somerset on Tuesday, the latest government figures show.

The fatality within 28 days of a positive coronaviru­s test was recorded in Sedgemoor, and was one of just four across the UK the same day.

Data also shows that six more cases were confirmed in Bath and North East Somerset on Tuesday, while five more were found in Sedgemoor, four in South Somerset, two in Somerset West and Taunton and one in Mendip.

The number of positive tests in B&NES has climbed by 47.4 per cent over the seven days leading up to April 29, making it the only local authority area in the county to have seen an increase in cases.

There is one person in hospital with coronaviru­s in the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, one in the Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and one person was admitted to the RUH Bath on Tuesday and put on a ventilator.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets: B&NES: 8,253 (+6 new cases); Mendip: 3,467 (+1); North Somerset: 10,102 (+2); Sedgemoor: 5,407 (+5); Somerset West and Taunton: 5,981 (+2); South Somerset: 5,472 (+4).
