Recycling centre stars in TV show

-

A recycling centre in Keynsham is in the spotlight this week on BBC One’s Money For Nothing.

Production company Friel Kean Films spent two weeks filming at Pixash Recycling Centre last summer.

Entrepreneur Sarah Moore selected items to save from the dump, which were upcycled and sold on behalf of residents.

One item from Keynsham turned out to have belonged to James Bond author Ian Fleming. It was an old writing bureau that was subsequently transformed into a cocktail cabinet.

The purpose of the programme is to show that many items can be reused and refurbished instead of being disposed of. Councillor David Wood, cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: “This is a fantastic example of how items deemed as junk can be saved and reused and shows how with a little bit of imagination there are many ingenious ways to upcycle or repurpose them.”

The saved items from Keynsham featured in an episode on BBC One at 3.45pm yesterday and a second will be aired on Monday, May 10. Both will be on iplayer.
