Exeter are next to visit Twerton
League Two side Exeter City are Bath City’s second opponents at Twerton Park this pre-season.
Matt Taylor’s men have been regulars at Twerton in recent years, visiting four times in the 2010s in friendlies and winning all four with Bath failing to net against their higher league opponents.
The 2019 clash was City’s first friendly that pre-season whereas Exeter’s training schedule was well underway. The Grecians ran out 3-0 winners with Ryan Bowman (2) and Archie Collins scoring within the opening half hour.
Alex Hartridge made his first appearance for Bath in the contest ahead of a successful season-long loan. The centre-back enjoyed 29 outings at Exeter last season at the heart of their defence.
Former defender Taylor ended his playing career with Bath in 2016 having arrived as player coach under Gary Owers. The former Team Bath man departed in October that year after three appearances to coach the under 23s at Exeter, a club he’d previously captained. He was appointed as Paul Tisdale’s successor in June 2018 as the Bath-born boss ended his 12-year spell in charge of the League Two side following a playoff final defeat to Coventry City.
Taylor led the Grecians back to Wembley in June 2020. With the season decided on a points-pergame basis, Exeter finished 5th and overcame Colchester United in the play-off semi-finals, before succumbing to a 0-4 loss versus Northampton.
Last season they finished ninth, three points from the final play-off spot and will commence their 10th successive season in League Two on Saturday 7 August against Bradford City.
Tomorrow is the fifth of eight friendlies for Bath and is part of their training camp at University of Bath. They have an eight-day break after the match before taking on Gloucester City on 24 July at Twerton Park.
