Have a say on role of bishop

People are being asked to share their views on what they would like from the next Bishop of Bath and Wells after the retirement of the Rt Rev Peter Hancock earlier this year.

The process has begun across the Bath and Wells area – from Portishead in the north to Crewkerne in the south, Minehead in the west to Frome in the east.

The appointment of a new bishop is made by the Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, after a process which involves representatives from the diocese, the archbishops and national representatives from General Synod.

Throughout the process there will be opportunities for people to get involved and share their thoughts on what the diocese needs from a new bishop. The diocese will undertake a consultation over the next couple of months and in mid-september the Archbishops’ Appointments Secretary and the Prime Minister’s Appointments Secretary will hold a public meeting, where all can contribute.

A questionnaire is available online or to download from the Bath and Wells website – www. bathandwel The closing date is August 20.
