Tee up a team for golf day, urges ex-invictus captain

-

A former Grenadier Guards officer who led the UK team at the last Invictus Games is inviting people to join a golf day to aid an Armed Forces charity.

The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) - which supports serving men and women and veterans from the British Armed Forces and their families - is hosting its annual golf day on Friday, August 20 to raise money for its Bath and Frome division.

The competition, open to teams of four, is taking place at the Bath Club at Sham Castle in Claverton Down, with prizes on offer. Entry costs £180 per team or £45 per player, which includes coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf, a buffet and prizes. Tee times are from 9am to 1.30pm, with other activities including a raffle.

SSAFA chairman Lieutenant General Sir Gary Coward will present the trophies.

Also planning to compete is Grenadier Guards officer Major (retired) Bernie Broad, who received extensive support from SSAFA after he was injured in an explosion in Afghanistan in 2009, eventually losing both legs.

Bernie captained the UK team at the 2017 Toronto Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded, injured and sick service men and women.

Bernie said: “The SSAFA Bath and Frome annual Golf Day is an excellent opportunity for individuals to come together in a superb competition whilst supporting the local Armed Forces community.

“It’s great that so many people have now registered, and I would encourage other golfers to put their names down for what will be an excellent day in a worthwhile cause.”
