Bill that will spell the end for NHS

- Nicola James Bath

People will be horrified when they realise that last Wednesday the crime of the century was committed in broad daylight, and that Bath MP Wera Hobhouse and main stream media were complicit in their silence.

This astonishing manoeuvre in the form of the second reading of the Health and Care Bill, will allow the Conservatives to end government’s legal duty to arrange the hospital care people need, from surgery and consultant care to physiotherapy and diagnostic tests.

It removes the legal duty to provide secondary care, allowing hospitals to discharge patients prematurely.

This is a corporate takeover Bill. It allows contracts with private firms without tendering, embedding cronyism and billions of pounds of waste for substandard reform. It strikes at the heart of Bevan’s principles of accessible comprehensive healthcare to all.

NHS privatisation will effectively put one person’s wealth ahead of another person’s health.

It is not enough that Wera Hobhouse voted against this Bill. The Lib Dems knew that with such a large Conservative majority their votes would make no difference.

Any MP who genuinely opposes this Bill wouldn’t be dodging questions. They would be using their platform to ensure that their constituents fully comprehend the gravity and the urgency for us to speak up and mobilise to oppose this Bill in our millions.

If we allow this Bill to proceed, it will be the end of our NHS. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever!
