Parker nominated for national recognition
Bloomfield Bowls Club’s Fez Parker has been shortlisted for the Grassroots Bowls Coach of the Year by Bowls England after being put forward by the club.
Parker received multiple nominations for the award. He has worked tirelessly for Bloomfield especially during the pandemic.
During the first lockdown he coordinated the booking of rinks and ensured Covid practices at the club were in place and adhered to. Since Parker has been introducing new bowlers to the club and providing coaching sessions for 4-5 hours every Sunday morning. He also offers one-to-one coaching to new members when they request it and offers drill practices to established bowlers.
Parker has also run two very successful Novice Bowler’s competitions, which has helped the club recruit new bowlers, as well as the Bowls England weekend. On top of this, Parker has secured sponsorship for the club amounting to £3,500 for new shirts and is in the process of getting sponsorship from a garden centre.
For the benefit of the club, Parker publishes articles in local newspapers such as the Bath Chronicle and shoots publicity film. Parker helps the bowlers feel very relaxed. He is extremely patient and at no time does he make them feel incompetent.
Parker uses a variety of teaching methods, instruction, observation, practical and questions/answers to name a few. He conducts each session in a structured and varied fashion maintaining high levels of interest and enjoyment.
