Old pub could become cafe-pizzeria

-

A closed pub could become a bakery, cafe and “laid-back” pizzeria run by a well known Bath business.

Behind reopening as a gastropub, an Italian restaurant was second on Weston residents’ wish list for the Kings Head, according to developer PMBC Ltd.

There was also “huge demand” for somewhere for people to meet during the day in a cafe-style environment and to get breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. All will be on offer if plans for the ground floor and basement of the Grade Ii-listed High Street pub are approved.

PMBC’S application says: “The new operation will operate as an all day cafe offering a full brunch and bakeryled menu, with fresh artisanal bread made on the premises and other cakes and pastries provided by the sister company in the city centre.

“Come the evening the venue will reinvent itself into a laid-back pizzeria serving stonebaked sourdough pizzas alongside a range of drinks including local craft beers and ciders.

“The focus of the business, much like its sister company in town, will be on quality, seasonal food, made fresh on the premises.”

It adds: “It is considered the proposed change of use of the former King’s Head to a bakery/cafe/restaurant represents a positive beneficial reuse of an important community building by a local operator, which has been vacant and underutilised for a notable period of time.”

It said there was interest from a well-known Bath business that would boost the economy and create 11 jobs.

The proposed tenant wants to open between 8am and 11.30pm, with deliveries from 6am.

Bath and North East Somerset Council will consider the plans.
