Rescue dogs in need of loving new homes

-

Nipper, Smudge and Spock are just a few of the adorable Somerset rescue dogs who are searching for new homes in the area.

Dogs Trust and the Bath Cats and Dogs Home each have a number of residents looking for forever families in the South West.

To enquire and get more information about pets at Dogs Friends, you can visit their website: https:// dogsfriends.me.uk.

Details about the dogs at Bath Cats and Dogs Home, and information about how to apply, can be found on their website: www.bathcatsanddogshome.org.uk/rehoming/dogs.

Here are some of the adorable dogs looking for new families:

Saluki greyhound cross Rocco is a lovable one-year-old from Dogs Friends who is looking for a permanent home.

The affectionate young pup is characterised as a well-rounded and highly intelligent dog.

He can live with or without other dogs, but will need any children to be over 16 due to his play style.

Though very sweet and goodnatured, Rocco sometimes play bites and can get a little overenthusiastic.

Prospective owners shouldn’t live with cats or other small furries, as Rocco has a high prey drive.

Adorably named Nipper is 10 years old but still a puppy at heart.

The sprightly terrier is described as a “spring chicken” who loves long walks and will gladly chase a ball around. While he loves human company, he would prefer to be the only dog in the house.

He’s also house-trained and walks nicely on the lead.

Dogs Friends thinks he’d be perfect for a family with older, sensible children or in a single-person household, though an active owner is ideal.

American bulldog Smudge has been with Dogs Friends since last summer. Now five, he arrived in a “sad and sorry” state, with “extremely painful and deformed legs”.

Described as a super friendly

and loyal, happy soul, Smudge is sure to make a wonderful companion. He’s had intensive physio to help with his legs and will need hydrotherapy treatment in the future, which his family will need to facilitate.

Smudge gets a bit too excited to be around young children, so requires a sensible adult-only household.

Beautiful English bulldog Bella is also from Dogs Friends. Despite being described as a sweet playful girl with a friendly nature, the lovely six-year-old has so far only had two applications.

According to the website description of her, she excels in her roles as “neighbourhood watch coordinator, head of security and expert squeaker removal”.

Bella can be rehomed with children

who are 10 or older, but would prefer to be the only dog. She cannot live with cats.

German shepherd dog collie cross Bailey is estimated to be between four and five years old.

The handsome pup, being looked after by Dogs Friends, is searching for a very special adultonly home where he’ll be the only dog. His new owners will also need to be experienced and committed to helping him boost his socialisation skills.

Bailey is described a highly intelligent and sensitive dog who can be shy when you first get to know him but becomes very friendly.

Due to his nerves, he’s best suited to a quiet, rural location with a large garden or nearby field.

Tiny Alfie is a two-year-old Shih Tzu who would make a fantastic

companion.

He is described as a lovely friendly boy with a big character, good with both humans and other dogs - though not cats.

The cheeky chap is well-behaved but will require an adult-only household.

Middle-aged lady Molly has been looking for an owner for some time. Another resident at Dogs Friends, the gentle eight-year-old is a sweet-natured and fun dog.

Despite her age, Molly is often puppylike and playful!

The beagle terrier cross loves attention, food and toys, and gets on well with both other dogs and children.

Molly likes to be close to people, so she’d prefer to be with a family that can be around often.

Lurcher Sue is a lovely girl that has been constantly overlooked.

The four-year-old female has been at Bath Cats and Dogs Home for a whopping 25 months!

Described as a clever lady who loves meeting new pals and cuddles on the sofa, sweet Sue is very affectionate and playful.

She’s best suited to an adult-only house where she’ll be the only pet.

Five-year-old Buttons is a resident at Bath Cats and Dogs Home.

The gorgeous Staffordshire bull terrier cross is chocolate-coloured and loves a fuss on his own terms.

He needs an experienced owner who will be patient as he settles into his forever home. Formal handling can make him a little nervous, so his owners will need to get comfortable reading his body language to tell when he needs space.

Though the sweet boy is affectionate with those closest to him, he is often unsure of new people, and best housed somewhere where there aren’t too many visitors.

Sweet Dakota the Shar Pei is on the lookout for a new family as well.

The 13-month-year-old is described as a cheeky boy who loves soft, squeaky toys.

The pup gets distressed when left alone, so will need experienced and understanding owners who can be at home most of the time, especially while he settles in.

As is characteristic of the breed, Dakota is affectionate but likes his own space when he’s had enough affection, meaning he’s best housed with teenagers and adults only.

Five-year-old Bubbles is a male terrier cross who came to Bath Cats and Dogs Home when his owner sadly passed away.

He needs a quiet home with lots of company, as he struggles to be left alone.

The gorgeous dog will also require some help with housetraining.

Bubbles can live with teenagers but not children.

Handsome lad Spock is looking for a home where he’ll have plenty to do. The adorable Staffy, who is 21 months old, loves being around the hustle and bustle of a busy household and gets stressed when left alone.

He doesn’t get on well with other dogs, so will need to be a family’s only pup.
