Roads close by car park during sewer works

-

Roads around Avon Street car park in Bath closed on Tuesday for three months to allow a sewer to be moved.

The car park itself will also close overnight for three nights in early October, with exact dates to be confirmed nearer the time.

Wessex Water will be carrying out work on the sewer which runs under the car park and needs to be redirected.

It will be moved under the road between Ambury and Corn Street to allow work to begin on the Bath Quays North development.

During the first phase of works, the left lane of Ambury will be shut for an estimated seven weeks.

Drivers will still be able to use the right lane and be able to turn left into Corn Street.

Once this is complete, the next phase will be to close the left turn into Corn Street requiring a diversion along James Street West.

This phase is expected to take five weeks and access to Avon Street car park will be via Green Park Road.

Bus stops will remain operational throughout but will be moved along Ambury as the works progress.

Councillor Manda Rigby, cabinet member for transport, said: “These works are being carried out in phases to reduce disruption for motorists and we are hopeful that this will segue with the end of the closure of Cleveland Bridge, to minimise city-wide disruption.

“We are also working with the bus companies to ensure services are provided throughout.

“Thank you for your patience as we work towards the completion of Bath Quays North.”

Wessex Water has notified adjacent residents and businesses of the works.
