‘Baffling’ why sweet Sue yet to find home

- Tilly Alexander tilly.alexander@reachplc.com

The team at the home all adore Sue and are desperate to find her new forever home.

A young lurcher that is coming up to her fourth anniversary at a Bath rescue home may just be the UK’S loneliest dog.

Four-year-old Sue, pictured, has been with Bath Cats and Dogs Home most of her life, having first come to the rescue as a stray on August 22, 2017.

Although the sweet female was rehomed in 2018, her new owner’s personal circumstances sadly changed and poor Sue was returned to the Bath home in July 2019, after almost a year.

Heartbreakingly, the lovely girl has been with the rescue home ever since, failing to yield much interest from prospective adopters.

While Sue does have some specific requirements for her new owner - including a home with no kids or other pets - the Bath team can’t understand why it’s taken the poor lurcher so long to find her forever family.

A spokesperson for the rescue home said: “Sue is a very affectionate girl who loves a cuddle. She will make a brilliant pet for an experienced, patient and loving owner.

“The team at the home all adore her and are desperate to find her new forever home.”

They added: “We’ve had such a lack of interest and the team are a bit baffled. She’s a lovely a dog.

“We rehome much harder dogs it’s really, really bizarre.”

The team have even theorised that it is partly down to Sue’s brindle colouring, a tri-colour coat pattern that is often associated with types of dogs assumed to be “aggressive”.

The spokesperson explained: “This colouring isn’t always the first choice with potential adopters.

“We don’t exactly know why but it’s always slightly trickier to rehome brindle dogs than other dogs. So maybe if she was black, she might have gone.”

The energetic lurcher is described as a ‘clever girl’ who already knows ‘sit’ and ‘give paw,’ and is keen to learn more tricks.

As Sue can get a little overexcited and ‘mouthy’ at times, she’s looking for an owner with experience of a strong-willed dog with some challenging behaviour.

They will also need to work on her basic training and manners.

Sue walks nicely on a Halti lead but can’t be let off-lead on walks yet, so will need a secure garden at home.

She is based in Bath but can be rehomed anywhere in the UK.
