There are 50 areas of Bath and Somerset that have seen 30 or more new coronavirus cases over the last week, according to new figures.

Public Health England is publishing a weekly update outlining the number of new cases reported in each seven-day period for every area of the country.

The rolling data reports the new cases being confirmed in any seven-day period, with the data published on Thursday, September 2 covering the period up to July 24. The figures for the intervening days are not included as they are incomplete and likely to be altered.

All of the 124 recording areas of Somerset saw at least four new cases, with 50 of these having seen at least 30 new cases.

The place to have been most heavily hit by the virus in the seven day period was Bridgwater, which had the two areas with the most cases.

Bridgwater South had the most in the county with 76 new infections, with Bridgwater North having 64.

Bridgwater Town also had 60 new cases as did Berrow and Brent Knoll, with Taunton Holway and Lambrook having 62 new positive tests.

Bridgwater East, along with High Littleton and Paulton, saw 55 new cases, with Stockmoor and North Petherton on 54 and Widcombe, Bathwick Hill and Claverton Down reporting 53 infections.

The other areas to have seen at least 30 new cases include parts of Bath, Weston-super-mare, Frome, Taunton, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Yeovil.
