Two new Covid deaths recorded in county

More than 500 new cases and two more deaths have been recorded across Somerset in the latest daily coronaviru­s figures.

The two fatalities within 28 days of a positive Covid test were confirmed across Bath and North East Somerset and Sedgemoor.

This takes the total number of deaths across Somerset and Bath since the start of the pandemic to 1,395.

In the latest 24 hours of data to Tuesday, a further 556 cases were confirmed in the region, a rise on the 494 cases recorded in the previous day’s figures.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded the highest number of new cases, with 144. South Somerset had 117 and North Somerset had 111. The other three areas of Somerset reported fewer than 100 cases.

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began with new positive test results in brackets are: Bath and North East Somerset 25,523 (+144); Mendip - 12,784 (+67); North Somerset - 26,121 (+111); Sedgemoor - 14,933 (+58); Somerset West and Taunton - 16,544 (+59); South Somerset - 17,143 (+117).

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Somerset since the beginning of the pandemic are as follows: bath and North East Somerset - 254 (+1); Mendip - 191 (-); North Somerset - 349 (-); Sedgemoor 193 (+1); Somerset West and Taunton - 223 (-); South Somerset - 185 (-).

Across the UK there were a further 33,117 lab-confirmed Covid cases, taking the total across the country to 9,366,676 since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.

There have also been a further 262 people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid as of Tuesday, November 9, bringing the UK total to 142,124.
