Matches prove tight at the top

- Mark Payne-blackmore sport@bathchron.co.uk

Eight games were played over the BDFL’S three Sunday divisions at the weekend as this season is really taking shape now.

Starting in Division One where hosts Trinity must have hoped Ball’s strike would help them take something from leaders Kingsmead, only for goals from Conradi and Keen to send the Kings home victorious.

It was a tight affair in both the matches at the top, another 2-1 this time to home team PF Loco beating Lansdown. Rogers got on the scoresheet for the visitors, albeit not enough as Smith and Bond meant all three points went the way of Loco.

In the Second Division Olympics Victoria caused an upset with home advantage. Second place Team Nathan lead twice, first an own goal but - though OV hadn’t seen much of the ball - when they did Pereira made no mistake equalising for 1-1.

By the break it was 2-1 through another own goal and Nathan looked in control, but in the second half they hit self-destruct mode and the home side took full advantage; scoring twice through Rogers to put them in the lead against a team who lost their heads, finishing the game with nine men and in tatters.

League leaders Dunkerton kept up their 100 per cent record, beating Odd Down Reserves on the pitch they share 4-0. Goals from Pallet and Adams were doubled up by a Gary Jones brace, while they continue to look unbeatable.

A game that looked very even at the break, level at 1-1 with Mclellan scoring for the visiting Farrington Albion, but the Griffin ran away with this one 6-1. Scorers were Halford (2), James, Brand from the penalty spot, Thorne and Siddy for a resounding win.

Finishing in the bottom tier, visiting Team Nathan Reserves could only manage the same as their firsts with two goals from new man Bidgood, but they did fight back from 3-0 down at half-time. Two Weir Town thought they were running away with it when Tanner, Gardner and Brister scored but there was a scare before the end.

Heritage Reserves beat Keynsham Rangers 1-0 through Richards’ strike and Puckle Vale were gifted the home-walkover by Bear Flat.

■ THERE is just one space left in the official Bath 6-a-side league and teams can take advantage of free entry right now.

Area manager Ben Schumann said: “Now everything has reopened there has been an incredible take up on new teams, with people desperate to play football again, so there is high demand for these last spots.”

The league is held at Mulberry Park on Sundays throughout the year and all matches are refereed by a qualified official. All equipment is provided.

Leisure Leagues donates all the profits to charities and good causes and because of this they insist that the full match fee is paid online each week.

The winners and runners up in the competition will be placed into the Leisure Leagues prize draw, part of our weekly TV show, and which has already seen teams win thousands of pounds worth of prizes.
