Ivybank House’s residents show off artistic flair
Residents of Ivybank House care home near Springfield Park are creating their own works of art based on the works of renowned British artists.
The 12 artworks have been provided by ‘Paintings in Hospitals,’ a charity that uses visual art to transform care spaces and inspire health and well-being.
“I love painting and being creative,” said Eileen Pullen, a resident of the home. “I really enjoyed making the collages and will cherish them forever.”
Sue James, the home’s Magic Moments Club Coordinator, said: “Art has many benefits for health and well-being and has always been an important feature in our activities programme. It’s a wonderful way of evoking special memories and making us reflect in a way that’s personal to everyone.”
The pieces were specially chosen for the theme of a ‘beautiful planet’ and represent the land, sky and sea.
They include the paper cut-out ‘Native Flowers’ by Claire Brewster, brightly coloured contemporary piece ‘Aeroplane Passing By’ by David Michie and the joyful oil painting Mundy Pool by Andrew Macara depicting children playing in a fountain.
Accompanying each artwork is a programme of activities aimed at caring for the mind, body and soul which includes arts and crafts, music, exploring nature and discussion and reminiscence sessions designed for residents of all needs to take part. Ivybank House Care Home is located in Ivy Bank Park off Entry Hill and provides residential care and respite care.
