Choir seeks recruits as Nashville tour looms

-

Bath Male Choir starts rehearsing again next week and new potential members in all vocal ranges are very welcome.

The choir, Covid permitting, hopes to jet off to the USA in the autumn on a singing tour of Nashville, Tennessee.

“Come along and meet us on a Tuesday night,” said the new deputy conductor, Laurie Jones. “The choir has an enviable reputation for entertaining and exciting audiences and we look forward to meeting new potential members to sing in the leading male voice choir in the West of England.”

The choir has been in high demand for concerts in recent years and has performed across the UK and around Europe.

It toured Japan in 2014, the first amateur choir to visit the country.

The next successful tour was to Boston in the States in 2019 and it was recently announced that in October this year the choir will visit the music city of Nashville.

Founder and conductor Grenville Jones said: “We are now planning the itinerary for the Nashville visit with 50 singers committed to take part.”

Nashville tourism boss Laurel Bennett said: “I am delighted to hear that your esteemed choir has chosen Nashville for your 2022 choir tour.

“Music is written, recorded and performed in Nashville every day so you couldn’t have chosen a better destination to explore music history and experience music in the making.”

The choir has a busy diary with concerts in Taunton on March 19, Bath on April 9, Monkton Farleigh on April 30, and in Salisbury, Cheltenham and Cornwall.

Members of the choir come from across the area.

Rehearsals start again on Tuesday, January 11 at Beechen Cliff Methodist Church in Bear Flat, Bath.
