Passing on rugby skills to 80 girls

-

More than 80 girls from Bath, Chippenham and Wells took part in sessions on Sunday which were delivered by Bath Rugby development coaches.

Open to all abilities the sessions are designed to retain girls already active in rugby and attract new girls to the game. The first Somerset Hub was hosted by Bath RFC, supported by King Edward’s School (KES) and Avon Protect, at the Lambridge Training Ground which is also home to Bath Rugby Ladies.

As a long-time supporter of ladies’ and girls’ rugby, Bath MP Wera Hobhouse also attended the event.

After meeting the coaching staff and players as well as watching the sessions the MP said: “A fantastic afternoon watching girls play rugby in Lambridge at the first Somerset Hub, hosted by Bath Rugby.

“The women’s game is getting more and more popular, and I was pleased to see so many girls come along at the weekend. These events are a great opportunity for girls to develop and for others to get involved in the game.

“Congratulations to all volunteers and players who made this happen and for a great initiative.”

David Chapman, head of community partnerships at KES said: “Sunday’s event offered a fantastic environment for players and coaches alike to develop their skills. We look forward to supporting

Bath RFC’S ongoing commitment to encouraging participation in the game.”

Further Bath Rugby Participation Hub events are planned for 2022 and the next Bath Rugby Girls event is a festival featuring U15 and U16 teams from across Wiltshire and Somerset on Sunday, February 6 at Lambridge Training Ground.
