Thrilling win gives hope

- Mark Payne-blackmore sport@bathchron.co.uk

Only three matches were played in the Bath & District Sunday leagues this weekend. Even though two of fixtures meant little but pride at this latter stage, they both entertained.

Heritage United Reserves hosted Bear Flat needing to win to have any chance of stopping runaway Division Three leaders Puckle Vale. It all looked destined to end in tears for United who found themselves trailing 3-2 with ten minutes to go before an equaliser was bettered when Josh Doell scored a last-minute winner for the hosts and kept their hopes alive.

Heritage’s first three goals all came from police officer and centre-back Chris Cook who was returning from injury suffered whilst chasing a robbery kidnap suspect across a ploughed field.

The other game in the bottom division saw Two Weir Town welcome Lansdown Reserves and the home side ran away winners 3-2 in their last game of the season.

Goals came courtesy of Short, Mcdonald and Brister for Town while Bishop and Metcalfe’s strikes for the visitors side meant nothing but good effort in the end.

The only game in Division Two saw Odd Down Reserves and Team Nathan play their finals games of the league season, the second part of their double header after meeting last week.

With Nathan’s second place already confirmed, they cemented it further with a late first half goal from Ben Manning before a second 11 minutes from time after riding their luck came via Tommy Paget.

Though the leagues are all but over bar a few, the season is far from finished as the exciting BDFL Cup tournament begins for the majority of sides next weekend.
