Title hopes put in doubt

It was District Cup action for the majority of the Bath & District League teams this weekend, alongside two massive league fixtures in Division One which would really shape the outcome of the title race.

Goals from Norris and Pistone gave PF Loco the points in a 2-1 victory to put real doubt on Batheaston’s title hopes in a tense game.

In the other league fixture, Kingsmead beat Trinity 4-0 with goals from Saunders (2), Keen and Chandler to keep them second, level on 21 points with Batheaston but, with still two games to play, it’s looking like their campaign to lose.

It should have been a full fixture list in the cup but the weather hampered one game, while Farrington and Team Nathan claimed points without kicking a ball due to walkovers, with Bear Flat and Griffin having to pull out the fixtures late, while Puckle Vale against Bath United will be played at a later date.

There was an eight-goal thriller at Somerdale Pavilion between these two Division Three sides as Heritage United Reserves edged Keynsham Rangers 5-3 thanks to a double from Josh Doell that Will Richards and Kieran Mayhew added to for an impressive victory.

Team Nathan Reserves couldn’t match or even come close to the free victory their firsts got as they got walked over by Lansdown who had a glorious morning winning 9-0.

Craig Rogers bagged four while Ryan Metcalf produced a hat-trick with Cobley and Newell both joining in the fun too.

Unfortunately, though, their good form ran out with their first team also, as Lansdown Reserves welcomed Division Two champions Dunkerton to the Playing Fields who started their cup journey in clinical style winning 7-0 and the home side couldn’t answer back.

Second Division Gringos were beaten by lower league side Two Weir Town in a tight encounter. Strikes from Durk and Brister made the difference in the 2-1 win.

In the final game of the weekend, it was an all-division Two tie which saw Odd Down Reserves win 3-1. Brad Whittock grabbed a brace, which added to Ollie Gould’s earlier strike for the points.
