Celebrities pool resources to aid lido campaign

-

Stars of the radio, stage and sports have got together to read a poem about a historic lido in Bath and launch a crowdfunding campaign.

It is hoped that the first swim in the restored Cleveland Pools will take place this year.

Meanwhile, Olympians Amy Williams and Sharron Davies and Paralympian Stephanie Millward, actor Kris Marshall, author Jonathan Dimbleby and former Bath Rugby player turned TV pundit David Flatman have joined together to recite a poem about Cleveland Pools, filmed on site.

“We are so grateful for the local, and national enthusiasm for the pools,” said Kitty Dimbleby, comms and PR trustee of the Cleveland Pools Trust. “And we’re very excited that we can now give everyone a chance to get involved.”

Despite the chilly weather, the builders have made good progress

through the winter months, finishing stone repairs to the crescent building, completing the plant room structure and starting work on a new kiosk.

The pools have been covered with a huge marquee to protect them from frost while the base and walls are rendered ahead of the final tiled finish.

The site is very congested right now, so there is an ongoing job to clear as much as possible to make it easier for the contractors to move around and make progress in each area.

In the meantime the Cleveland Pools Trust, with the help of the six celebrities, launched a month-long crowdfunder on Friday.

The Cleveland Pools Trust is a shared community endeavour, with a vision to create a special place for Bath residents, and visitors to the city, to enjoy for generations.

As the Trust enters the final stages of the onsite construction, renewed support is needed – a final fundraising push to secure the finishing touches to this epic project.

“You can be a part of something amazing – donate to ensure the historic Cleveland Pools reopen and be in with a chance of winning one of the very first swims,” said Kitty.

The Cleveland Pools crowdfunder is now on the Cleveland Pools web and social media sites.

To win the chance to be one of the first to swim in the newly restored Georgian pools, the oldest lido in the UK, visit www.clevelandpools.org.uk before 3pm on Friday, March 18, and follow the links from the homepage.
