JUSTIN Davies has already recorded a personal best of 3mins 47.26secs in the 1,500m this season and to that achievement he has now added some silverware at the British Universities Indoor Championships.

Representing the University of Bath, Davies, who is coached by Martin Rush, finished runner-up in the men’s 1,500m held at Sheffield over the weekend.

Also in Sheffield, Team Bath AC clubmate Joel Mattacks achieved a PB in the T20 60m sprint, clocking 7.26secs in the heats before adding 7.27secs for the bronze medal in the final, which was won by Paralympian Thomas Young.

Mattacks, who is studying sport and exercise science at Cardiff Met University, then added gold in the Ambulant men’s long jump with a PB leap of 6.05m.

FURTHER news from on the board but across the Atlantic in America, Team Bath’s Caitlin Wosika, who is a student at Rice University, ran a personal best of 4:54.25 in the heats of the mile at the Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.

That time shaved 1.63secs off her previous best set just over a week earlier in Houston. In the final later that day, Wosika placed seventh in 4:57.23 – her third fastest time ever underlining the new level of consistency as before this winter she had never broken five minutes before.

ON the roads, Stylianos Asimakopoulos was Team Bath’s leading runner in the Chilly 10k race held around the Castle Combe motor racing circuit, in Wiltshire.

Asimakopoulos clocked a PB of 39:19 for tenth ahead of clubmates Joe Mobbs (39:43) and Carl Tucker (42:58).

In the women’s race, Sevim Sangwell (1:25:00) was first super veteran while Lauren Jauss finished fourth veteran overall (1:20:32).

THE Seville marathon, Spain, was

certainly the place to be on Sunday as numerous Brits made the trip and were rewarded with personal bests, the highlight of which was Jess Piasecki’s brilliant time of 2:22:25 to lift her to second on the UK All-time Lists behind Paula Radcliffe.

Flying the Team Bath AC flag was Jo-anne Barfoot and she finished 130th woman and eighth in the over45s age category with a very creditable time of 3:21:11. Barfoot’s lifetime best remains at 3:05:13 which she recorded five years ago in London.

HEATHER Fell took on the ‘Last

Person Standing’ ultra race in Cornwall organised by Mad Hatter Sports and finished second woman overall.

THE Blue Riband event of the domestic cross country season takes place this weekend with the English National Championships around the legendary Parliament Hill course in London.

Cross Country captain James Donald heads a strong Team Bath presence comprising 14 men and four women for Saturday’s event.
