Fearless return to competing
Bath TAGB Taekwondo, based at Culverhay Sports Centre, have returned to winning ways after sending 14 competitors to the South West Championships in Weston-super-mare.
The Bath members made their way to Hutton Moor Sports Centre after two years of no competitions following the pandemic.
Senior instructor Master Robert Morris said: “Most of these students have never competed in a competition, so this was a new experience, but you wouldn’t have known given the fearless enthusiasm they all showed.”
From 14 competitors, seven students brought back nine medals: Rosie Weston (bronze & gold Yellow belt division), Danielle Mcmenemy (bronze Black belt division), Theo Sharma (silver Yellow belt division), Seb Sharma (silver Blue belt division), Euan Marsh (gold & silver Yellow belt division), Alex Evans (gold Red belt division) and Joe Molloy (bronze & silver Red belt division).
Morris added: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many spirited performances, they were all amazing. It was as if they’d been set free to express themselves, the atmosphere was electric.”
Morris also commended club coach James Tolfree 2nd Dan Black belt on preparing students for the tournaments.
Tolfree put a lot of time and effort into ensuring these students were competition ready and it certainly paid off.
Morris said: “It feels like were finally getting back to normality. The students have been incredible in their determination to keep their training in TKD up.
“Zoom classes, outdoor classes, video classes, they did them all and have come through it with a renewed spirit that nothing can stop them achieving their goals”.
The club now has the English Championships in Worcester to focus on, as well as Colour & Black belt gradings.
Morris added: “There’s a renewed energy at the club now with new members enrolling all the time.”
