Prizegiving marks plenty of achievements
Lansdown Golf Club held its annual Prizegiving Evening on Saturday, formally presenting an array of trophies, accumulated over the club’s 128-year history, to members who won the club’s premier competitions in 2021.
Due to lockdown restrictions earlier last season, not all the 2021 competitions were contested, but there were still plenty of individual and team achievements to be celebrated. Notable among these was the gross medal score of 63 (nett 62) recorded by Charlie Patterson to win the Mullingar Trophy in July. Patterson, who is 23, also won the
Gilmer Cup and the Pop Camm Trophies and ended last year’s season with a handicap of +3. Not surprisingly, he now has ambitions to turn professional and is currently seeking sponsorship to launch his career on the pro tour.
Club Champion Charlie Taylormadge was there to collect his trophy and runner-up Ed Butler in the 2021 Championship took the Scratch Cup.
From the Ladies Section, Bev Rees took an amazing five trophies from the 16 played for by the lady members. Rees caught the golf bug two years ago and her handicap has steadily reduced to 27, in readiness for the 2022 season. She is definitely a force to be reckoned with and a role model to our new ladies who are just obtaining their first handicaps.
Juniors Edison Butler and Cameron Stevenson shared the honours with two trophies each – Butler won the Mike Beard Trophy and the Monty Withington Shield, while Stevenson took the Kite Cup and the Captain’s Junior Shield.
From the Seniors section, club captain Rod Thomas won the Cecil Hannah Salver and Paul Lowrie was Senior of the Year.
