Entries are coming in fast for the popular Chew Valley 10k, now in its tenth year and sponsored by Debbie Fortune Estate Agents.

This year the scenic, rural race takes place on Sunday, June 12, at 9.30am. Almost 300 runners have already entered the race, so don’t delay if you’re hoping to enter.

This year’s 10km race begins at Bishop Sutton Village Hall and anyone over 15 can enter. Entry costs £22 with a special rate for 15-18 year-olds of £15. The fee includes a bespoke medal and the option of a technical T-shirt, which will be exclusively available to entrants who book a place by the end of April.

To celebrate its tenth birthday, this year there are ten good causes and charities benefitting from funds raised at the event. Alongside main beneficiaries NICU Support, Bishop Sutton Primary School Society and Chew Valley School Society, this year’s race is also supporting Chew Valley Plants Trees, Myeloma UK, Chew Valley Rugby Club, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity, Chew Valley Football Club, Lymphoma Research Trust and Harvey Hext Trust: A Sibling’s Wish.

The good causes benefit from any funds raised, plus runners can donate when they enter the race at www. chewvalley10k.co.uk by rounding up their entry fee to the nearest pound or more on the entry page through

Sportsgiving and choosing one of the beneficiaries to receive it.

Runners can also choose to raise further sponsorship funds at the click of a button on the entry page, if they would like to. Since the 2022 event launched, an incredible £900 has been given to charities in Sportsgiving donations.

The event was originally conceived in 2012 by Ann Booker and Jo Burke, keen runners and mums at Bishop Sutton Primary School, who wanted to raise funds for the school while getting the local community active. Many original race committee members are still involved, whilst the entire local community supports the event with sponsorship, by volunteering as marshals or baking cakes to feed hungry runners at the end of the event.

Local doctor, broadcaster and comedian, Dr Phil Hammond, has provided commentary for every race since the beginning.

Over the past decade, over £15,000 has been donated to both the Bishop Sutton Primary School and Chew Valley School societies providing equipment, such as playground facilities and ipads, funding wellbeing support and sports activities and equipment.

Chew Valley School head teacher Gareth Beynon said: “We are grateful for the generous donations received over many years from the Chew Valley 10k. These funds have helped us

provide student counselling, revision sessions, Ten Tors equipment and many other necessary resources. Our teachers and students have both run and supported the event as marshals and helpers, plus our talented young design students compete to create the design for the race T-shirt.”

Race director Denise Mellersh added: “Without the tireless support and commitment of volunteers, residents and local businesses we would not be celebrating our tenth anniversary with a 10km race that is still going strong. We would like to thank each and every person who has helped out, but especially the whole Debbie Fortune

Estate Agents team who have been great partners for the committee throughout many years.”

Runners are urged to enter the 10k online now to avoid missing out as every year has been a sell-out for this popular, scenic 10k race. Race marshals are always needed so please contact email@chewvalley10k.co.uk if you are interested in cheering on the runners as they race. The 10k marshal volunteers really help make the event the friendly, fun event it is.
