HOTEL OF THE WEEK

- By David Broome

Andaz Liverpool Street, London

WHERE And WHY: Located in the north-east of the City close to lively, stylish Shoreditch, in the shadow of the iconic Gherkin building and in the heart of England’s capital. Next door is Liverpool Street Station, the first stop to explore everything London has to offer.

The Andaz is a “21st-century masterpiece” in a Victorian building with 267 rooms and suites, as well as six restaurants and bars, plus 15 private dining and event spaces.

Among the accommodation on offer is a family room, comprising adjoining, wellappointed bedrooms, complete with robes and slippers for smaller guests.

The hotel is available to book for weddings, with a bespoke, personalised service during your special day and a dedicated wedding manager on hand.

Meetings are also bookable, with an experienced events team available to assist.

On THE MENU: Choose from classic favourites and a full-to-bursting breakfast menu at the Eastway Brasserie, specially curated wines or afternoon tea at 1901 Wine Lounge, authentic Japanese from Miyako, innovative drinks and cocktails at Rake’s Cafe Bar, or traditional pub fare at Lady Abercorn’s Pub &Kitchen.

We booked into Eastway for dinner and breakfast. Dinner had something of a seafood theme, with tuna niçoise, king prawn and crayfish linguine, Scottish farm salmon and yellowfin tuna loin all on offer. And I never leave any restaurant without trying the burrata cheese, if it’s on the menu, which it was.

Starters from £8.50, mains from £10.50, desserts from £6.50.

WHILE YOU’RE THERE: The hotel is within walking distance of Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Barbican Centre and the Tate Modern, so there’s plenty on offer without even jumping on the Tube. WAKE-UP CALL: The family suite, which has two double rooms, costs from £565 a night including breakfast. Regular double rooms start at £236. hyatt.com
