Rivals have a lot of cup history between them
Arch-rivals Bath City and Yeovil Town will meet in the 2022 Somerset Premier Cup Final.
City confirmed their place two weeks ago with a win over Frome, whereas Yeovil made light work of Toolstation Division One outfit Odd Down, winning 5-0 at Huish Park on Tuesday night in their semi-final.
Olufela Olomola gave the Glovers the perfect start with a fourth minute opener.
Charlie Lee’s men turned the screw after half-time, doubling their tally on 51 minutes through Josh Neufville.
Tanzania international Adi Yussuf made it 3-0, before Neufville heaped further misery on the Downers with a fourth as the National League side made it three goals in six minutes.
Academy product Corey Andrews completed the scoring with 10 minutes remaining.
The final will also take place at Huish Park as the venue was penciled in to stage the 2020 final, which didn’t take place following the cancellation of the competition during the pandemic.
Yeovil and Bath are the most successful sides in the Somerset Premier Cup having each won the competition 24 times, but in recent years they’ve struggled to make inroads with the Glovers usually using it to field academy players, particularly during their 16-year stint in the Football League.
It will be Yeovil’s 41st appearance in the final but first since 2015 when they lost at Taunton. By coincidence their last success was in 2005 in a repeat of Tuesday’s win over Odd Down – a 5-0 victory at Huish Park – a season where they also clinched the League Two title.
Bath City haven’t reached the final since 2008 when they saw off Paulton Rovers at Twerton Park in a replayed tie after the original was abandoned at Weston-super-mare following a floodlight failure.
Manager Jerry Gill won the competition in 1994 and 1995 with Bath and represented Yeovil in the 1996/97 season before starting his Football League journey.
This year’s final takes place on Tuesday 10 May, three days after the conclusion of City’s league campaign.
