200th match in charge and still loving the job

-

While Billericay were using their third boss of the season, Jerry Gill was celebrating his 200th match as manager of Bath City Football Club.

Ironically the milestone was marked at the same venue as his 100th fixture, a 1-1 draw in September 2019.

Having replaced Gary Owers in October 2017, Gill is just the ninth man in the club’s history to complete a double century in charge. His win percentage stands at 44 per cent and has overseen 160 National League South matches, 23 more than nearest challenger Lee Howells.

“It’s been amazing,” said Gill. “I’ve loved my job.

“I’ve had to work even harder behind the scenes this season, all my staff have as well.

“I know I keep repeating myself but by everyone coming together it means we’ve managed to get these results.

“When you’re winning everything is easy. I’m proud of the fact that we’ve dug in and it’s got us out of a rut.”

Gill was ably assisted by Jim Rollo until the end of October 2021 when the popular former defender stepped down to spend more time with his family.

He was replaced by Andy Watts, who did some scouting for the club in 2019 before taking on this more full-time role, which included rooming with his manager on Friday night.

“Andy is what it’s like to coach at this level,” said Gill. “I shared a room with him last night and he didn’t get too much sleep because I’m at it 24-7 – football, football, football.

“I’ve got to thank my staff from Simon (Jenkins) the kitman to you guys on the media. You’re all a massive part of it, support me in what I need and I really appreciate it.”
