Pub garden ‘among UK’S best’

-

A popular beer garden in Bath has been named among the best nationwide.

The Hare and Hounds received the second-highest rating of any beer garden across the UK, coming runner-up to Fort William’s Ben Nevis Inn. Over half of all visitors on Trip Advisor gave it a five-star review, giving it an overall rating of four stars.

Down the road in Pensford, the Rising Sun also reached great acclaim. With 247 reviews to its name, this pub boasts a 4.5-star rating on Tripadvisor and, at No.12, falls just outside the nation’s top 10.

Our friendly local inns had some stiff competition on their hands - taking on big names like Oxford’s Perch Inn and The Albion in London.

Wellness company Eden’s Gate ranked the pubs based on their number of positive Trip Advisor reviews.

Unsurprisingly, the Hare and Hounds earned 878 five-star reviews out of a total of 1,533.

The inn was praised for its tasty food and has proved a hit with dog lovers.

Their popular beer garden has come under threat and was only granted planning permission for 12 months from July 2021.

It had been constructed in a “live or die” moment for the pub, without planning permission, amid repeated coronavirus lockdowns.

After construction, Bath and North East Somerset Council’s planning department said the garden bar and decking couldn’t stay but councillors said an “alternative” could be found.

A retrospective planning application saw huge support with a total of 4,597 supportive comments, 19 comments and 16 objections. In their feedback, planners said the beer garden was “incongruous”.
