Join Michael on his travels

-

Comedy actor and adventurer Michael Palin will be coming to Bath with his new stage show.

But the Monty Python legend will not be singing the Lumberjack Song or re-hashing the dead parot sketch.

The intrepid globetrotter and former president of the Royal Geographic Society, will tell tales of his extraordinary travels in North Korea and Iraq.

The two countries were named by former US president George Bush as the Axis of Evil.

Using photos and film, Michael will tell the story of his challenging adventures in the tightly controlled People’s Republic of North Korea and troubled Iraq, a birthplace of civilisation now torn apart by war and bloodshed.

“We shouldn’t forget that we share a common humanity with the people of North Korea and Iraq,” he said.

“In both these tough and difficult countries we found, humour and hope, ambition, expectation, warmth, hospitality and extraordinary resilience.”

For Michael, the best part of travelling is looking behind the headlines and getting to know what life is really like for the people who live there.

“These journeys were for me a total eye-opener,” said Michael. “They may take you out of your comfort zone but I hope, like me, that once we’ve travelled together, your feelings about these two countries, and the wider world we share, will never be quite the same again.”

New series Michael Palin: Into Iraq, will be televised in the autumn on Channel 5.

Tickets for the show - From North Korea Into Iraq - on Sunday, October 9 are on sale from ticketmaster.co.uk.
