Anderson crowned champ
Bath Golf Club’s ladies held their Club Championship last week as 36-holes of Medal play in fine, warm conditions greeted the 36 players taking part.
Steph Anderson claimed the Championship after a very exciting finish. Two steady rounds for a gross 175 was enough to take the trophy ahead of Honor Jones and Mary Perkins who both shot 177. Perkins won the Meek Salver for the best nett scores, posting 141 which was one ahead of Alison Rushgrove with Jeannie Willis third on 144.
A Club Stableford was played last weekend in overcast and breezy conditions. The winner of Division One, with a fine 41 points, was Simon Freeman who was one clear of Brynley Hurle who beat Piers Rivington on countback. Top of Division Two was David Cox, also with 41, again finishing one better than Graham Cottle who edged Barrie Saggers on countback. The overall winner and in Division Three was Michael Roche on 42, one in front of Steve Bailey with Tim Edgell a point further back.
Last Wednesday, Bath secured a crucial 3.5-1.5 victory at Kendleshire. With one match to go, at home to Shirehampton on August 28, a win would secure promotion for Bath, while their victory helped the second side who are locked in a relegation battle with Kendleshire. On Thursday, the second side secured a must-win success over Shirehampton, 3-2, in their final home game of the season which lifted them off the bottom for the first time this campaign.
The second side have three remaining fixtures, all away. If they lose all three they are relegated, but if they win any one of the matches they stay up.
The first of those happened on Sunday in the reverse fixture against Shirehampton where Bath lost 4-1. They still have to face Clevedon and Kendleshire.
