Families urged to get creative at art gallery
Bath’s city centre open gallery is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, by presenting video-led activities focused on Bath.
The ground and first floors of 44AD artspace, founded by Bath Spa graduate Katie O’brien, are gallery areas, while its second floor is an artists’ workshop.
Starting yesterday, Wednesday August 10, the artists’ haven on the corner of Abbey Street, with a green bike outside, is hosting engaging, video-led activities about new ways of seeing and learning for the duration of the school summer holidays
The videos encourage and help children and families to be creative. They are made by volunteers and friends of 44AD and include:
■ Paul has produced a set of short ‘how-to’ videos for families interested in painting imaginary scenes;
■ Be a scientific investigator with Kath, a graduate from the University of Bath, who shows families how to do some scientific research by following The Scientific Method;
■ Anna a graduate from Edinburgh University encourages us to be ‘Trailblazers’ and look at our favourite place and devise a trail to explain why it is special to us;
■ Hayley, a graduate from the University of Bath Spa, takes us on a visit around Bath to learn what the city was like 900 years ago when Adelard, the UK’S first mathematician and scientist, was at his most famous and lived and taught in the Abbey precinct just yards from 44AD.
During the last week of the project, August 29 until September 3, everyone is invited to pop into the gallery at 4 Abbey Street between noon and 5pm and it is hoped participating families will be showing off what they have created.
44AD artspace was set up by
Katie after she had graduated from Bath Spa University with a degree in fine arts. It is open to everyone.
There are 18 studio artists and an ever changing series of weekly exhibitions. For more information see: http://www.44ad.net.
