Skipper Kieran’s joy as he opens his goal account

-

Kieran Parselle was delighted to get off the mark for Bath City in style.

The captain’s 95th minute header at Eastbourne saw the Romans win by the odd goal in seven having trailed 3-1 at the break.

He celebrated by ripping off his shirt and whirling it around his head before running into Jerry Gill’s arms.

“I think everything just came out of me then,” said Parselle after Saturday’s win. “There’s no better feeling than scoring a winner that late.

“The boys are buzzing in there.

It’s a hard place to come – to get three points from here is brilliant.

“We’ve got a great togetherness. We didn’t crumble and took the game by the scruff of the neck.”

It was a better memory for the Bristolian than his last visit to Priory Lane in September 2021, when the then-chippenham centre-back was dismissed for a professional foul.

This time he was part of a stunning turnaround, City’s first win from a two-goal deficit since December 2010.

“I thought we dominated the game,” he said. “If we cut out the three mistakes I reckon we would have won that game four or five-nil.

“We always had that belief that there were going to be goals.

“Us defensive players have to chip in with the odd goals throughout the season so it’s nice to get off the mark.”

Parselle ended his four-year spell at rivals Chippenham Town in the summer, who signed Pablo Martinez as his replacement.

The 21-year-old collapsed on the pitch at Hardenhuish Park on Saturday causing their game with Chelmsford to be abandoned. He remains in hospital in a stable condition having received CPR on the pitch.

“I hope the kid’s alright,” said Parselle. “I wish him a speedy recovery, it’s horrible to see that happen to a fellow player.”
