SPRINTER Kenneth Muhumuza scorched to a 100/200m double in the latest Avon Track & Field League match.

The Team Bath AC athlete, who is coached by Colin Baross, equalled his personal best of 11.20secs in the senior men’s 100m and then clocked 23.2secs to also win the 200m with clubmate Michael Nickells second in 23.8secs.

Muhumuza also added further maximum points in the 4x100m relay as Team Bath AC’S small but determined team finished a fine third overall behind host club Yate & District AC with Bristol & West AC second.

Other winners for the club on Sunday included Esme Mckenzie. Mckenzie tackled the triple jump for only the second time in her young career - she made her debut last season - and she won the under 15s event with a leap of 9.85m – good enough to immediately put her second in the South West Rankings. Clearly she has a talent for the event so could be one to watch in the future.

Mia Bates won the senior women’s 400m in 61.4secs with Katie Macintosh runner-up in 62.2secs while English Schools’ bronze medallist Charlie Haines won the U15 boys 800m in 2.07.5 with Thomas White in second (2.26.6).

Charlie Staddon, another English Schools’ finalist and current South West No 1 in the 400m hurdles, switched from the one-lap event to win the U17 men’s 100m hurdles.

Henri Cotineau switched to the U17 men’s 800m for the first time this summer and claimed an impressive win in 2:09.0, which will be good enough to put him into the top ten of the 2022 South West Rankings.

In the relays Muhumuza anchored the senior men to a fine win in 47.7secs while the U17 men also triumphed in 50.1secs. Second places went to Daisy Duncan in the U15 girls high jump with 1.45m with Olivia Lewis third on 1.40m and Poppy Price fourth (1.35m).

Sofa Skidmore was runner-up in the U17s 1500m (5:12.2) as was Sophia Moore in the senior women’s race (5:06.7). Alice Wilson cleared 1.45m for second in the U17s high jump and Rupert Rutter was runner-up in the U13 boys long jump (4.20m).

Third places went to Gertie Blewitt (U15 girls 300m, 44.5secs) and 1500m (5:29.5), Staddon in the U17s 200m (23.6secs), Joe Markey (U17s 800m, 2:16.4) and William Willetts (U17s long jump, 5.13m).

■ Team Bath’s Aaron Pritchard returned to action after a break from training to clock a respectable 15mins 51secs for 42nd place in the main race at the Asics Home Nations 5k Championships in Cardiff on Saturday.

“That bodes well for his autumn/winter race programme,” said coach Paul King.

■ Elsewhere Sarah Layzell was third veteran over 40 in the latest round of the Two Tunnels races organised by Relish Running on Sunday clocking a time of 52mins 28secs.

Matt Lay and Martin Archbold finished fourth (1:36.55) and fifth (1:37.48) respectively in the over 40s class of the half marathon event.
