Larks fight back to earn Cup replay
Larkhall Athletic earned an FA Cup replay after a draw away at Cowes.
New signing Owen Taylor scored an equaliser straight from a freekick for the Larks in the second half after they had gone a goal down in the first period.
The Preliminary Round tie was due to have been played last night (Wednesday) with the winners to play Cirencester or Clevedon in the First Qualifying Round on Saturday, September 3.
■ Western League
On Tuesday last week Keynsham’s Jemar Thomas struck four minutes into added time to earn his side a 2-2 draw with Welton.
But on Saturday Keynsham were thrashed away at unbeaten Saltash.
The hosts were in excellent form against Keynsham, beating their visitors 6-1 at the Waterways Stadium.
The contest was all but over inside the opening 45 minutes with the home side going into the break 4-0 up. Two further goals piled on the misery with a consolation from Amadou Jawo.
Bitton were on the wrong end of a late goal midweek as Ashton & Backwell skipper Connor Saunders headed home in the seventh minute of stoppage time to snatch a 2-1 victory.
There was more misery for Bitton on Saturday as table toppers Bridgwater United made it six wins on the bounce defeating Bitton 4-0.
The in-form hosts took just 17 minutes to go in front, with Jack Taylor unexpectedly getting his name on the scoresheet.
Ross Edwards then struck at the back post to double their advantage, with an own goal then making it 3-0 midway through the second half.
Bridgy saved the best for last, with George King volleying home to put the finishing touches on a terrific team goal which completed the scoring.
Odd Down thumped Gillingham by five goals to two.
The midweek game was two apiece at the interval, before the home side surged home during the second 45, with Luke Bryan completing his double, before Caelen Simpson and a late own goal confirmed back to back wins.
■ somerset County League
In the Somerset County League Premier Division Timsbury Athletic made a brilliant start to the campaign beating Clevedon United 4-1 away from home.
With 5 or 6 of the first team squad missing, it outlined the strength in depth in the side.
The prolific Rhys Cook notched a hat-trick, whilst new signing Rico Sobers grabbed the other on what was an impressive debut performance.
Huge credit to Ashton who also made a crucial penalty save with the game at 3-1.
■ Corsham Print Wiltshire senior League
Stratton Juniors had started the season with two 4-0 home defeats and were once again at home on Saturday with Odd Down Development the visitors to the new ground at Merton Fields.
On a good day for the club, Stratton ended a run of eight straight league defeats, that included six at the back end of last season, by securing that first league win at their new home.
In a physical encounter, goals from Corey Cullen and Leigh Brown did the damage for Neil Lee’s side in a 2-1 win that lifted them out of the bottom three in the table. Odd Down’s reply was scored by Bill Tuner.
