Keep it simple and freeze energy prices

Why oh why can we not keep it simple in this crisis?

We freeze the rate all the population have to pay for energy at, say, £2,000pa and then negotiate with (what) 10 energy companies on how the Government will ‘compensate’ them!

Instead of trying to ‘negotiate/ compensate’ with a population of 65 million by offering payments and satisfying nobody.

This approach would be a huge relief to the whole population.
