New opponents to come in cup

-

Bath City will host Hartley Wintney in the FA Cup second Qualifying Round on Saturday, 17 September - kick-off 3pm.

The Hampshire-based village side won 4-0 at Roman Glass St George last week to earn a trip to Twerton Park in what will be the first ever meeting between the sides.

Hartley Wintney currently sit in 19th place in Southern Premier South, one division below the Romans.

“Any club at our level coming into this round will say that these games can be quite nervy ones,” said Jerry Gill, an hour after the draw was made.

“You’re generally playing a side from a lower level and it’s a loselose situation.

“But we’re in really good form and we can’t forget that. We’re on two points per game virtually – that’s promotion form.

“We look forward to any game at home for sure. We’ll do our research on them, we’ll have them watched at Beaconsfield this weekend and I’ll speak to people at Swindon Supermarine as they’ve already played them. I’ve done a few bits on them already.”

Managed by Ross Weatherstone and Tyrone Newton, Hartley Wintney have made a stuttering start to this campaign with four defeats in six, having finished 18th last season.

The Row, who play at the 1,980-capacity Memorial Playing Fields, first entered the FA Cup in 2003 after promotion to the Combined Counties Premier. Their best runs have been to the Fourth Qualifying Round on two occasions, the most recent in 2020 when they narrowly lost 1-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge. Scott Wilson, now of Bath City, made his debut for the Daggers in that tie behind closed doors.

City haven’t reached Round One since 2011, where they also lost to Dagenham. Last season they were knocked out by Banbury United in the Fourth Qualifying Round.
