Positive Covid tests on the up

The latest coronaviru­s figures for Somerset have been released by Public Health England.

The report shows hundreds of new Covid-19 cases being reported, bringing the total number since records began to 180,705 in the area.

Sadly, the latest figures show seven deaths in total across Somerset, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset - the break down of these can be seen below. Public Health England reports 15 deaths within 28 days of positive test by date of death so far in September. According to the latest figures, both the number of cases detected through mass community testing, and patients admitted to hospital with Covid, have risen in the past seven days.

Below are some key statistics presented on the UK Coronaviru­s (Covid-19) Dashboard. It was last updated on Thursday, September 22. Between 11 September and 17 September, 28,167 people had a confirmed positive test result. This was an increase of 12.7 per cent compared to the previous seven days. Between 13 September and 19 September, 4,015 went into hospital with coronaviru­s. This shows an increase of 16.9 per cent compared to the previous seven days. Between 11 September and 17 September, there have been 289 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronaviru­s test. A -24.3 per cent decrease on the previous seven days.
