Curtain up on ‘cool’ bar at arts hub

-

A new restaurant bar opens in Bath tonight (Thursday) with a collaboration between a theatre company and a digital and social hub.

Play+house opens at Burdall’s Yard in a joint venture between the Next Stage Theatre Company and the Always Sunday team.

In September 2021, Next Stage Theatre Company acquired Burdall’s Yard, and has been hard at work transforming the vaults of the former brewery into a vibrant community hub and arts centre.

The company has now teamed up with Always Sunday to enhance its vision for Burdall’s Yard with the addition of a bar and eatery.

Next Stage’s artistic director, Ann Ellison, said: “With Town+house next door to Burdall’s Yard, it seemed an obvious move to reach out to them to see if they would like to extend their business into Burdall’s Yard. Happily, they said ‘yes’.

“The team from Always Sunday have worked non-stop over the summer to create Play+house, the all-new cafe and bar at Burdall’s Yard.

“Renovations have included a cool, elegant, and welcoming bar area, while also creating a Mediterraneanstyle ambience in the attractive and pleasantly secluded cobbled courtyard.”

Play+house is celebrating it’s official opening tonight (Thursday) from 6pm–9pm. There’s a paying bar, free nibbles, live music, and an eye-catching display of artwork by local artists. All are welcome.

The venue will be open Tuesdayssaturdays, 11am-10pm, headed by general manager Toby Helley.

He said: “Play+house is an exciting new opportunity to showcase some amazing new independent brands in our mission to create a relaxing and creative environment featuring live music, garden games and other firstclass entertainment at Burdall’s Yard.”
