Tablespoon appeal caused a real stir

-

Well, who’d have thought my letter about the lack of tablespoons would cause such a stir! The Somerset Live website exploded with vitriol!

I concede. Tablespoons were indeed available in Nesbits, if only in multi-packs. I had avoided going in for that reason.

I only wanted one to add to my son’s survival kit for university. If the reader who pointed this out gets in touch with me I will donate the £50 to the charity of his choice. If I don’t hear from him I

will send it to Dorothy House.

However, everyone who said that they were generally available was wrong. A tablespoon is not a dessert spoon that you eat pudding with or indeed a serving spoon with which you dish up. It is the one in between. The tablespoon is a different beast altogether and is not generally available.

I will check out the Walcott Street market, but I fear that reader was referring to serving spoons. I will not be travelling to Radstock, despite its excellent museums, just to get one. Mind you, I did finally track single tablespoons... in Bournemouth.
