Girls strike gold in league
There was a gold rush for Baskervilles Gymnastics’ girls’ squad as both teams were placed first at the most recent West Country League match at Forest of Dean Gymnastics Club.
The A League team, which won a clean sweep across the vault, bars, beam and floor, finished first place overall.
Baskervilles say they want to congratulate 10-year-olds Willow Thomas and Rosie Dobson and nine-year-olds Hettie-jean Wilson-worgan, Sophie Sweetman, Phoebe Mitchell and Ruby Pargeter on their win.
There were also a number of individual competition highlights, with special mention going to Hettie, who secured a hat-trick of golds across the beam, vault and bar, winning the individual first place.
The B League team upheld the winning streak, also claiming an overall gold medal. As a team, the girls placed first on the floor and second in the vault, bars and beam.
Baskervilles offered “huge congratulations” to 13-year-olds Olive Courtney-bye and Matilda Willingham and 12-year-olds Beth Turner, Evie Wilkins, Sophie Napp and Phoebe Lewis, who competed a variety of new skills and gained an array of personal achievements.
Individual highlights included Matilda winning the individual silver medal, coming first on the floor and second on the beam, as well as Olive, Evie and Phoebe all collecting a bronze medal throughout the competition.
Baskervilles also thanked 12-yearold Grace Witcher, who travelled as a reserve gymnast, as well as squad coaches Fran Baskerville, Rachel Down, Surya Bhamidimarri and Kiera Williams for their hard work preparing the girls for the competition.
Head squad coach Fran said: “We as a coaching team are incredibly proud of both teams. The girls performed beautifully and are a credit to Baskervilles. We look forward to the team final in November.”
Baskervilles said they would also like to thank Fran Baskerville and Amy Hartnell-saunders for judging on the day.
