1 Star Wars: Episode ix – the rise of Skywalker Saturday, Channel 4, 8.30pm

An old enemy resurfaces to help

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in his mission to track down the Resistance. Meanwhile, Rey, Finn, Poe and the others set off in search of a tracker that will help lead them to the First Order’s deadly new base – a mission that ends with Rey facing the truth about her family. All the old favourites return, including Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), with Richard E Grant popping up as a nasty First Order commander and General Leia returning one last time.

2 Muppets Most Wanted Sunday, BBC1, 2.15pm

The world’s most deadly criminal, Constantin­e (voiced by Matt Vogel) – who bears an uncanny resemblanc­e to Kermit (Steve Whitmire) – escapes from Gulag 38B in Siberia. Commander Nadya (Tina Fey) and her men give chase and mistakenly apprehend Kermit, believing him to be the amphibian mastermind.

3 poltergeis­t Monday, BBC2, 11.15pm

Spawning a host of sequels, a TV series spin-off and a remake, Poltergeis­t is a classic chiller which perfectly showcases the incredible talents of writer Steven Spielberg and director Tobe Hooper. A young family are bemused by the antics of unseen spirits in their new home, but then the spectral invaders turn evil...

4 Casino royale Tuesday, ITV4, 9pm

Daniel Craig, left, bowed out as James Bond in No Time to Die, but here’s a chance to remember his debut. This time around, the secret agent is on the trail of Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), an internatio­nal criminal planning to use a highstakes poker game as a means of funding terrorist organisati­ons across the world.

5 reach for the Sky Wednesday, Film4, 3.30pm

Based on the true story of Douglas Bader, the film follows the renowned Second World War hero as he battles to achieve his dream of learning to fly, despite losing both legs in a plane crash in 1931. Kenneth More, pictured, does a superb job in the lead role and is ably supported by a talented cast.

6 loving Thursday, BBC4, 10.55pm

Loving is a handsomely crafted drama telling the true story of two mild-mannered, yet courageous souls from 1950s Virginia, who followed their hearts in strict defiance of The Racial Integrity Act, which criminalis­ed interracia­l marriages in the state. Oscar-nominee Ruth Negga is radiant as the emotional rock in the eye of a legal storm.

7 Scarface Friday, ITV4, 10.50pm

In 1932, Paul Muni starred in influentia­l gangster movie Scarface, which left its mark on many great film-makers, including director Brian De Palma, who took charge of this remake. It features one of Al Pacino’s finest and most iconic performanc­es. He plays Tony Montana, the Cuban villain who becomes a lieutenant for a Florida drug lord.
